Dr Wendy Bamberg

Dr. Wendy Bamberg

Wendy M. Bamberg, MD, founded Medical Epidemiology Consulting in 2019 with the purpose of supporting healthcare facilities, public health and government agencies, and non-profit organizations in their work to prevent healthcare associated infections and antimicrobial resistance and promote antimicrobial stewardship. She brings extensive experience in healthcare epidemiology and communicable disease outbreak response, a commitment to public health and healthcare collaboration, a passion for learning, and a drive to positively impact the health of populations.

Dr. Bamberg is a medical epidemiologist with over 14 years of experience in communicable disease epidemiology, with over 10 years focused on healthcare epidemiology. During 2009-2019, she was proud to serve the citizens of Colorado as the head of the Healthcare Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance Program at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, which included developing the program from the ground up, leading countless outbreak investigations, incorporating antimicrobial resistance surveillance and antimicrobial stewardship, securing funding, and obtaining national recognition for program excellence. During 2015-2019, Dr. Bamberg served as one of three representatives of the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) on the national Council for Outbreak Response: Healthcare-Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance (CORHA). In 2017 she traveled to the Philippines as a volunteer with Rotary International to assist local hospitals with healthcare-associated infection prevention.

Dr. Bamberg has extensive experience in communicable disease field epidemiology work at the local, state, federal, and international levels. She is currently the Emerging/Re-Emerging Section Editor for Contagion. Previous to her work in healthcare epidemiology, Dr. Bamberg worked at El Paso County Public Health preventing sexually transmitted infections. She was an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Officer (class of 2005) in the United States Public Health Service with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), stationed in Colorado as a general communicable disease epidemiologist. During her time as an EIS Officer, she also traveled to Madagascar to assist in the coordination of a study comparing antibiotic treatments for plague.

Dr. Bamberg is board certified in infectious diseases and internal medicine. She completed medical school at the University of Colorado in Denver, internship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, residency at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, and fellowship at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. Dr. Bamberg currently resides in Denver, Colorado, USA.
